Last post till we are on the road

The bike and trailer are packed and we are ready to head out.  I have to work tonight till 3:00 AM PST, after I get some sleep we will start out.  Our first stop is at our friends house in Carnation WA. where we will spend the night.  Saturday we will get up fairly early and head for the Canadian border.

Our route on Saturday should take us through Vancouver, BC and up Hwy 99 the Sea to Sky highway.  It starts at Horseshoe Bay goes through Whistler up into the mountains (check out some of the images available on google) and ( Trip Adviser review of the Highway) .  Not sure how far we will get on Saturday, it all depends on how long it takes us to cross the border.  Probably stop somewhere between Lillooet and Cache Creek.

It was raining earlier this morning but this evening it has started clearing up and is now bright sunshine here with just a few clouds over by the mountains.

Going over the check lists.

We have been going over the checklists for the trip.  It is really difficult deciding what to take and what not to take and keeping track of it all.  I found a great site for checklist that you should check out.  MikaPeak Check Lists.  They have pre-configured checklists and ones you can customize.

Tested out the Spot and the Goldwing this last weekend with Tyler (our grandson).  We started out heading down the east side of Mt. St. Helens on Forest Road 25 and were going to go all the way to White Salmon along the Columbia River.  Unfortunately the road is blocked by snow!!  June 26th and its still blocked by snow!!!!!!  We decided to go down Forest Road 23 to Trout Lake ---   Again that road is blocked by snow!.  Turned around and went back home via Packwood.  The Spot worked pretty well except when it slipped down between the bag and the back seat.  No problems with the bike.

Getting pretty antsy now that we only have 2 full days left before we take off.  On July 2nd we will be going through Vancouver and on to Whistler.  We should be stopping for the night at one of the campgrounds before Cache Creek.  I'll post pictures as we get a chance.

Getting ready for our Alaska Trip

On July 1'st we will be heading out to Alaska with another couple.  They have never been there and they wanted someone to share the ride with.  Edie and I had been to Alaska 10 years ago in our truck and have wanted to go back ever since.

I've gone over the bike carefully, put new tires on it, lots of maintenance and checked out everything.  I rewired the trailer and put new wheels and bearings on it.  We spent lots of time getting all of our paperwork ready including insurance papers, passports etc..  All of the planning and preparation work is done, now we just have to load up the trailer and bike.

This is what we'll be riding and the trailer we'll be pulling
We'll be camping most of the way up to help keep the cost reasonable.  Our route is extremely flexible and if you are interested you can follow us through my Spot Tracker . Henry's Spot Tracker .  It will show the last 30 days of tracks, which as of today shows where we went camping over the Fathers Day Weekend.  Just before we head out I will post a link to the Spot Adventures website that will also allow you to view the pictures we post as we get to WiFi access points.

The only thing that concerns me about starting this trip is getting Bear Spray into Canada.  Supposedly if it meets certain criteria it will not be much of an issue.  I'll keep you all posted on what happens when we try to cross the border.
